Family members killed in Amhara attack

At least five members of a single family including a child were killed by heavy artillery
in Debretabor town in Ethiopia's Amhara state, a local official has told the BBC.

“A father and a neighbour’s child who was there during the attack were injured,”
Kelemework Mihrete said of the Thursday attack.

TPLF rebels, who have been fighting the government since November last year,

were hit during Thursday's attack.

Earlier this month, TPLF rebels were accused of killing close to 240 people, including
107 children, who had sheltered in health centres and schools in Afar.

Rebel spokesperson Getachew Reda denied the accusation and called for an
independent investigation into the incident.

The rebels have made significant gains since June.

There is however concern that the war, which has already killed thousands and
displaced hundreds of thousands, will intensify as the government prepares to
reverse its losses.
